Andrew signs up for our Brompton Bike Challenge

Andrew McMasterHelicopter pilot Andrew McMaster will be getting on a Brompton bike this September to take part in our exciting Brompton Bicycle Challenge from Paris to London. In this guest blog, Andrew tells us why he wanted to enter the event.

I've been in the RAF now for nine years and I'm currently on exchange with the Navy.

When I heard there was going to be 75 people plus cycling on Bromptons from Paris to London to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show off some of the famous RAF grit and flair.

For me, the stories of our WWII colleagues still resonate so I look forward to having the opportunity to remember them as I take part in this special event.

Given there were two Naval Air Squadrons involved I'll also be trying to recruit a few Navy chaps to join me.

I can't say I'm a keen cyclist. I can ride a bike but that is as far as my achievements in the cycling world currently stretch, so I have a fair bit of training to do.

Crawl, walk and cycle; that will probably be my mantra for the next few months. Somerset is a perfect training area so I plan to take full advantage, once it gets a little less cold and wet!

I've been able to see the great work that the RAF Benevolent Fund has done for families on stations where I've worked so I'm proud that I have the opportunity to raise money for the charity. I'm aiming to raise the magic £1,000, that way any extra I get will feel like a bonus!

I think it's obvious that this is going to be a great event and I'd encourage as many people to get involved as possible.
