(L-R) Billy Moore, Cdt Sergeant Kevin Alarcon, Cdt Corporal Luiza Stewart and Flt Sgt Shoheb Akhtar accept their award from Simon Cox, Managing Director of ISS UK Ltd282 (East Ham) Squadron, RAF Air Cadets, scooped the award for Squadron of the Year from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, recognising their incredible support of the Fund at events over the past several years.

Whatever the request, 282 Squadron is on hand to help the charity.  In 2012, they supported the RAF Benevolent Fund at the unveiling of the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park by the Queen by assisting with seating guests.

282 Squadron Cadets stewarded VIPs at the British Military Tournament and they welcomed guests at the 70th anniversary screening of The Great Escape in March.

Their fantastic band encouraged runners in the London 10km run and they’ve cheered on RAF Benevolent Fund runners in the past three London marathons.

Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund Head of Regional Fundraising Philippa Gullen said:  "The Air Cadets from 282 (East Ham) Squadron are fantastic and incredibly generous with their time. Whether fundraising, cheering, or assisting with events, the 282 Squadron cadets are always enthusiastic, on time, and in correct uniform. They are a delight to work with and we appreciate their continuing support."

Flight Sergeant (ATC) Shoheb Akhtar said: "Our cadets are thrilled to win the Squadron of the Year award.  In joining the Air Training Corps, they have already expressed an interest in public service.  Supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund, in any capacity, further develops their commitment to service and aids a fantastic charity."

The award was sponsored by ISS UK Ltd and presented by Simon Cox, Managing Director of ISS UK Ltd.  This is the second year that the RAF Benevolent Fund has recognised the stand-out contributions made by a few of the dedicated individuals, stations, and corporate partners who support the charity each year.

The awards ceremony was held at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.
