Bumpy landings are a thing of the past for the youngest children at RAF Cranwell, as a new soft play area opened in the Brunei Community Centre.
The new play area, funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund as part of its Airplay programme, is designed for babies and toddlers up to age two, and features soft play furnishings, child-sized furniture, sand and water tables for 'messy play' and new wall decorations.
Air Commodore Chris Luck, Commandant at RAF Cranwell, said: "I know that I can speak for our families when I say that the new furnishings will be an immensely beneficial and very well-used addition to the Station’s community support amenities."
The RAF Benevolent Fund also provided two Mixed Use Games Areas (MUGAs) at RAF Benson and RAF Cosford. The RAF Benson MUGA, called Chipmunk Park, was custom designed for the hilly site and features a skate park, floor-level trampoline, tube slide, climbing apparatus, and swings. The RAF Cosford MUGA boasts a large ball court, trim trail and state of the art outdoor gym equipment.
RAF Benevolent Fund Controller Air Marshal Chris Nickols said: "In response to a request from the RAF a few years ago, the RAF Benevolent Fund committed to providing child care centres, a youth support programme and play parks for younger children on all major stations through our Airplay programme. We are delighted to provide these new Airplay facilities through our relationship with the Armed Forces Covenant Libor Scheme."
