RAF chef Richy Hartley is raising money for the RAF Benevolent Fund by doing the Inca trek to Machu Picchu. In this guest blog, Richy tells us more about his challenge and how his training and preparations for it have been coming along.
My trek to Machu Picchu begins at the end of April. It's a nine-day trek and I'll be joined by 13 people as we trek through the mountains to this ancient Inca site.
The highest point we'll reach is 4200m so it certainly won't be a stroll in the park! And just to put that into perspective, 4200m is the equivalent of 13 London Shard buildings stacked on top of each other! I can't wait to see the views when we reach the top.
The descent is the easy part apparently and after several stops on the way down, we'll reach a small town to recover.
I play football every week so this has been helping me stay to fit for the trek. I've also started some leg muscle circuits to prepare my legs for the ascent.
I'm really looking forward to my trek to Machu Picchu and doing my best to raise vital funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
