RAF families enjoy special screenings of Disney's Planes 2: Fire and Rescue

Planes 2 DVD screeningFollowing the soar away success of Planes 2: Fire and Rescue in cinemas, Disney launched the film on DVD this week and gave RAF families an opportunity to watch the high-flying comedy at RAF stations around the country.

We were delighted when Disney partnered with us once again and invited RAF stations to throw open their doors for special screenings of Planes 2: Fire and Rescue and have a party at the same time.

Nine RAF stations including RAF’s Scampton, Honington, Wyton, High Wycombe, Shawbury, Cosford, Odiham, Benson and Lossiemouth invited RAF children and families to special screenings of the film and the party really took off with Disney providing colourful, themed bunting, balloons, pens, Airplay wristbands and activity sheets. Children were also encouraged to take part in a special paper airplane race to win spot prizes.

More than 90 people attended the screening at RAF Scampton’s Heritage Centre Hangar including Service personnel and their children as well as members of the local community. The hangar proved to be an apt backdrop for the film as organisers arranged a Lancaster Bomber, a Red Arrows Hawk, a Hawk Hunter and a World War Two fire engine to be present. Four Red Arrows engineers ran the paper plane competition and our very own Ben Elephant made a special appearance.

A raffle on the night also raised £120 for the RAF Benevolent Fund – thank you very much to everyone who attended RAF Scampton’s screening!

Over at RAF Honington children aged 5-7 put on their best party clothes and attended a red carpet ‘premiere’ of the film. The screening was held at the station cinema which was decorated with bunting and dramatic spotlights gave the day a glamorous effect.

Planes 2 was the first film to be shown at RAF Cosford’s new cinema with 65 children and adults attending the screening. Organisers gave out free popcorn and drinks and children at the Airplay youth club donated their subs for the night to the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Thank you to all the RAF stations who took part and to Disney for organising the screenings.
