Statement in response to Chancellor's Spring Budget announcement

Air Vice-Marshal David Murray, Chief Executive at the RAF Benevolent Fund, has given his thoughts on the Spring Budget 2017 announced by Phillip Hammond.

Social care

"The RAF Benevolent Fund welcomes the Chancellor's pledge to put an extra £2 billion into social care and to make no further cuts to welfare benefits.

"We only hope that people are made fully aware of what they are entitled to.

"Within two years of launching our Advice and Benefits Service, we have helped a number of RAF families challenge their care packages, and we have identified over £1.6 million of state benefit missing from their incomes.

"It goes to show that, beyond the headlines, proper communication is key, otherwise relief goes unclaimed.

"If any members of the RAF family are unsure about what they are entitled to, we can advise on benefits and advocate on the behalf of those struggling to get the correct services from the NHS or a Local Authority."
