Treasury awards RAF Benevolent Fund £1m to support serving RAF personnel

The RAF Benevolent Fund is delighted to announce our bid for £1m funding from the LIBOR fund has been approved by the Chancellor.

RAF Reserves personnel

This grant will enable the Fund to respond to the needs of the serving RAF and their families by providing additional facilities and services on RAF stations to enable greater social engagement, better relationships and the provision of welfare facilities.

The Government's decision was announced today during the Chancellor of the Exchequer's autumn budget statement in the House of Commons.

Air Commodore Paul Hughesdon, Director of Welfare and Policy at the Fund, said: "We are delighted to announce this funding in support of the serving RAF Family.

"As the RAF's leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund knows only too well the pressures service life has on personnel and their families. This grant will allow the Fund to do even more to complement the services already on offer to serving personnel. Services like our Relate counselling sessions, a Building Stronger Families online course and our flagship youth support programme, Airplay, which is unique across the Armed Forces.

"Following research into the current needs of the RAF Family, the Fund will be launching a package of emotional and mental wellbeing initiatives, including a partnership with Anxiety UK, in the New Year.

"I believe our successful bid is a reflection of the strong relationship the Fund has with the Ministry of Defence, our ability to deliver and good governance. Our approach to research also gives us a very firm base from which to make investment decisions."
