Last week a group of new staff from our London office had the privilege of visiting Princess Marina House, our flagship welfare break centre on the south coast. Glyn Llewellyn, from our welfare team, fills us in.
This visit was a great chance to see the excellent facilities at Princess Marina House first hand. We also got the chance to meet the guests and residents, including some old RAF characters, who had nothing but praise for the care and attention they get from staff.
Soon after arrival we were given a presentation by Shirley, the general manager. We learned all about the history of the house, the fantastic fundraising support they receive from local people, and detailed information about their day-to-day work.
We all felt really uplifted by our trip. As a welfare executive for the RAF Benevolent Fund I often recommend a stay to someone in need of our help. Seeing it for myself really brought home what brilliant staff and facilities there are at Princess Marina House, and what a great location it is – the beach is beautiful - although it was a bit chilly on the day!
There's also a great atmosphere among guests and staff – it really feels like you're part of one big, happy family.
So much of my work in the welfare team is office based, so it was really great to see firsthand the difference we make to the RAF family.
